The Benefits of Podcasting
There are several reasons why this is a wonderful option to have in the classroom. One is it gives the children a more interesting way to learn. It also gives the children a way to check their school work when they are sick, or for some reason they are not in class they can listen to what they missed and even get extra help. It also gives a fun and creative way for them to have family time. One girl talked about her parents and siblings listening to her podcast in the car on trips. The students can get involved and help each other as well.
Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog
In this radio broadcast the students gave an interesting new way to look a Roam. It gives the students a chance to talk about what they have learned about Roman History. This is a wonderful way that parents can see what their child is learning about. Something that amazed me was that these kids are in the 3rd grade and can do all this. I am a Junior in college and this will be my first time to ever do a Podcast. This teaches the kids how to communicate with each other. It teaches trust and it also teaches them to become more independent. They work on their own and together and in the end their is this wonderful podcast full of information. These kids gave a great example of how to work together so maybe that is something I can take away form it and put into my podcast. Not only that they flowed really well that is something that will be very useful.
Judy Scharf Podcast Collection
In this blog. Mrs. Scharf describes all the helpful ways that tell what a podcast is and many more things. She also gives you positive to the podcast in the classroom. I agree whit one she said and that is a way to get the parents involved in their kids education. It is a sad thing to think that most parents don't care enough about their kids to care about their education. My mother who has been an educator for over 30 years has told me time and again that if more parents cared we would have a lot more successful children. Parents next to teachers are the other people that help mold these kids into who they want to be. Without parent interaction there will not be very many kids succeed.

Blog #4
While reading the blog by Dr. McLeod I was shocked at first by what he was saying. As a read a little more I was finally understanding his point. He was saying that as teachers we should not have to teach our children what to do and what not to do on the internet. That should be the responsibility of the parents to do that. I believe that is 100% the truth. Teachers should not be held accountable for the things children look up on the internet. That is the parents job. Dr. McLeod is an Associate professor of Educaitonal Administration at Iowa State University. This is only one of his many blog that he writes. I must say this particular one started off With me getting a little angery but after I read the blog and thought on it I realized he had very good reasons for saying thoes things. Teachers get blame more time than they should for things children do online because we spend the most time with them. In all honesty maybe the child's parents should pay more attention to what they teach them.
In the video The iSchool Inishative the writer has a wonderful idea about school in the future. Most schools in the unites states are in the same problem as this school in Georgia. Teachers are being let go, classes are getting bigger, and the schools budgets are horrible with no money to spare. This is a growing problem. A problem that can be fixed with the use of technology. The idea that all students have these itouches is a wonderful idea. It is a quick and easy way to communicate something to the students when they are not in the classroom.
The only down side is that unless the schools provided these itouches some students will not be able to afford them. The schools would have to issue them and take them up at the end of every year to keep inventory. Another down side is that some teachers will still use paper. I am a nanny for two children that go to St. Paul's here in Mobile and even though both of them have a school issued laptop and some of their teachers till use paper. Not only that but the older teachers who do not know much about technology will not be able to handle doing putting everything on the itouch for their kids. So there are pluses to this and negatives.
In the video The Lost Generation a lot of what was said is true. Our Generation will be the generation that is more focused on the fact we are making money that we will be focused on all the negatives in life. I love the fact though that they reversed it at the end to put things in prospective that things could be changed. It is very true we hold our own futures and no one can change that we have to fight for what we want and make this world a better place.
I am a musician so I loved this last post we were given to watch. I think this is a very effective way to use the internet for teaching. None of these people ever met but they made one of the most beutiful thongs I have ever heard. After hearing them you would think they had been wroking on this one pieces for weeks. This just gives an edge to thefact the internet could be used to meet people from all over the world and teach children about other cultures and music. This has to be one of my favorite things we have had to watch so fare in this class.

Additional Assignment #1
After using both of these new search engines I feel they provide a much easier way to find information than just Google or Bing. They give a detailed description of what you are looking for. I looked up universities in the state of Alabama and it came up with every college plus some I did not need and there enrollment. Both seem to me that hey would be a lot easier ans a lot more helpful for younger children to use due to the fact it is a lot more simple. On WolframAlpha it even gives a map with the location of the schools. I did not know about either of these search engines until I was given this assignment. I Will use these more often due to the fact they are a lot simpler than what I normally use. I just believe this would be a lot easier for smaller children. I did like Google squared alot better it seemed much simpler and had more results and you could add to them to. After reading the stable boy and the iPad it truly made me think about how much I did not know. Several of my friends have iPhones and I still don't know how to use them. If a six year old illiterate boy could uses the iPad without problems I have defiantly fallen short of the bar in my technological learning.

Blog #3
In the vedio " A Vison Of Students Today" I belive that some of this is true. I have noticed a lot of things moving from a smaller community college to a big university. One of the things they pointed out was that only 18% of teachers know their students. Going form a small college to a big one was a very hard change for me. For my whole first year here at south I was kinda pushed around and no one really took the time to get to know me. I had one teacher take time to learn all of her students. She got to know me so well that when I was late for my final she got worried because she knew that was not like me to be late or to miss a very big test. It flet so nice to know that one out of 5 of my professors got to know me on that level. I think if alot more professores did that learning would be so much better.
Another big thing they pointed put is that older ways of teaching are becoming obsolite. More and more students are connected by technology that old ways fo teaching like the chalkboard are no longer used. It makes it hard for students to focus when it is not interesting for us to learn. not only are old ways becoming cbsolite more students soend more time on the computer a week thatn they do anything ealse thanks to social networks. More and more things are being done through technology in the classroom.
In the reading It’s Not about the Technology the author has a really great point. Every year we spend thousand of dollars to teach teacher technology that they don't even use. They could be doing so much with the new technology that they are given information for. They are given this information to make learning easier for the children. I think if more teachers were to use more technology to teach with children would learn so much more in the classroom because there would be so much more interesting stuff to go over.
As teachers we should be open to learning just like we asked our kids to. There are new ways to help our students learn things better through technology. I agree that there is such a huge age range between teachers today and teachers from ten years ago. My mom has been an educator for more than thirty years. She has to go to smart board workshops every summer to keep up with the times. Even though she is a PE teacher she still has to know what the other teachers do. If we do not keep up with this new technology it will kill our chance of reaching children in a more effective ways.
In the Blog Is It Okay To Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher? One thing stuck out very clear in my mind. When Mr. Fisch said that when he would have a parent teacher conference and the parent would say " I was never good at that when I was in school." I know for a fact my parents have said that phrase more than once. It is true that it relates a lot to teachers that refuse to learn technology. If you look at the situation it relates to teachers from 30 years ago that refuse to learn new things. Stay on top of your game, and being able to learn new things.
I agree that all principals and head teachers should be held accountable for their staff not knowing this stuff. They are the leaders and it is sad to say but I bet many of them don't know any of the new technology either. This class has made me look in a short amount of time of how much I do not know. I am thankful to have a teacher that is making me strive for better and to learn more so I can do more with my students. Teachers who do not use this information should losses their jobs for not helps us learn the things to we need to teach our kids. I also agree that we should stop being nice and we should start calling teachers out when they don't uses this information or they choose not to use it.
In the last Watch the Social Media Count change every second when you click on this sentence. Seeing this made me think of how many times a day I check my email and facebook. It is amazing to see how many people make a facebook or some social network. The world is exploding around us and it is a train we are going to have to jump on and join in. This is going to change the way we teach and they way we communicate with our students and other colleagues. This stuff is going to change our world as teachers and the way we are doing things.

Summary of Teacher blog
In both of Mrs. Cassidy's Blogs she had very valid points for helping teachers. The first Post I commented on was "Room Two and the Forty Designs". In this post MRS. Cassidy talks about , taking the classroom more comfortable to students. She talks about making place for different kinds of learning areas. Making a place for a love seat for a more comfortable learning place. I believe that a comfortable learning environment makes for better students. I know I hated sitting in those hard desk everyday and I still do. I think the ideas she had were very good because id brings a different learning environment to the classroom and makes it more enjoyable.
In her second blog "Point and Shoot: Using Video to Capture Learning" Mrs. Cassidy shows a very different way to help teacher your children in the classroom. She says that getting the children involved in making the movie helps them learn more. I totally agree. I think the more the children get involved int the learning process the more they will take away from the experience. It also gives them a chance to be a different person and gives them a chance to express themselves and be creative. Which is one of the mane things I talked about in my last blog. It also gives a fun way for the teacher to teach, and help explain things better

Blog #2
In the video Did You Know? a lot of things opened my eyes to stuff I know I do not think about every day. We we enter college most students do not think about the technology that we will learn about while we are there. The video stated that we will not be able to use most of it by the time we graduate. Which is very true. I know stuff I learned in my freshman year is not being used anymore. One thing I have noticed is that most colleges are starting to become more laptop friendly where as when I was a freshman desk tops were the mane forum of work. Classrooms use power points instead of using the chalkboard to give notes. A lot of this could do with the fact that I went to a junior college but those are just a few difference I have noticed.
I also noticed that a lot more communication is done via the internet than a few years ago. I know for a fact I spend a lot of time on the internet a week. Most of it being for Facebook and now this class. My best friend has also pointed out to me that I have started to check my email a lot more than I used to due to the class. I have been without internet for almost a week and it is crazy how much a person can miss when the internet is gone. The world today revolves around communication with the internet of through text messages. I do not have text my self and most of my friends wonder how I do it because that is a huge way to communicate with people. A lot of what we do in this day and time is for convenience. That includes in the classroom. Teachers are trying to find new and improved ways to make this a lot easier in the classroom for instruction. Also to make things a lot easier for students to understand and learn. Which is a lot of what we are doing in this class. At the same time though some of the stuff we learn now will be obsolete in a few years so as teachers we have to stay on top of our game to make sure we have all the latest information for ourselves and our children.
In the video Mr. Winkle Wakes the writer goes to explain how technology has changed in 100 years. One major point is that the most change happened in the outside of education. Most work was being done by computers and by chats on the computer. Even in the hospitals there was new technology that was not there 100 years ago. Most everything in a modern day hospital is done my some kind of machine or computer. Some hospitals even have robots in them to deliver medication. They even have people kept alive by computers.
The one major thing Mr. Winkle did notice was that the schools had not changed. Most students still sat in a desk and did work like they used to. Some schools have more money than others and can afford to have the technology that others can't. At the same time though most schools today have computers for students to access. I think the writer did miss the mark though when he showed the school in the light he did because there is a lot of technology in schools today. Most children are granted access to a computer everyday for different things. Plus most teaching is done with the aid of some kind of technology. Why did the creator choose to leave this out and make the schools sound old and antiquated? I think he really did not look into that very much. I know that technology could be used a lot more in schools but there is a lot more than meets the eye, and I think he over looked a lot.
This third video I can really agree with. Mr. Robinson has some very valid points. Most children are train to be wrong. We teach kids that being wrong is a bad thing and that there is no good wrong. Which is very true. To me the good kind of wrong is when you are teaching a child a concept and they don't understand and get an example wrong. This as a teacher gives you a chance to help the child or fix the problem. Most teachers don't see it that way. They view the student getting it wrong as negative and some help but others move on or get frustrated. We teach children that the talents they have must be put away and they must accent the concept we teach them. He stated that we were training children to be high level professors which is very true.
Another thing that really hit home for me was that we are told that we can not do what we love we have to do something that is going to get us somewhere in life. I was one of those people. I was told by my father that what I started in school for was not going to make me money or I might not even have a job. One I was doing what I loved and that was all that mattered to me. A year ago I gave up my dream of being a music teacher because I was told I would never get anywhere doing that. Don't get me wrong I love teaching but my true passion is music. I hate to see other kids like me give up there dream and there creativity just because one person tells them they wont amount to nothing. Due to my situation I have not picked up my saxophone in 2 years. I love the message that we should embrace the creativity our students have and not try to kill it but help it grow and teach them it is ok to do what you love and what you are good at.
In this final video we take just a closer look into what some student do everyday. Some are getting to use there "digital smarts" as we call it everyday in the classroom. These kids and this teacher in this small Georgia town are doing something like we are. We are pretty much teaching ourselves along with the help from Dr. Strange to be more digitally smart. They talk with other kids around the world and the teacher interacts with other teachers to make their learning experience better.
This teacher has joined forces with other teachers around the world to make her students learning experience better and more fulfilling. She wants her kids to teach each other and to learn to communicate with the best technology that they have provided. The teacher even says the kids end up teaching her sometimes because they will learn more about one topic than she will. This makes learning more fun for them and she even gets the extra help of learning new ways herself so she can pass them on.
